Normal Malibu Campus Operations Resume Thursday

Posted on Updated on

Normal campus operations, including in-person classes on Pepperdine’s Malibu Campus, will resume Thursday, February 22, 2024. All other campuses remain open at this time. Graduate schools may follow up with additional communications to students and faculty as needed.

University officials continue to monitor the road conditions and closures. This includes gathering information from experts and associated agencies who oversee the roads regarding anticipated timelines for reopening.

Below are the current road conditions for major routes leading to the Malibu Campus:

  • Pacific Coast Highway south of the Malibu campus is open.
  • Topanga Canyon is open.
  • Malibu Canyon remains closed due to a landslide.
  • Pacific Coast Highway north of campus remains closed between Corral Canyon and Latigo Canyon.
  • Kanan Dume Road is open; however, Pacific Coast Highway between Kanan and the Malibu campus is closed as noted above.

For example, this means, if traveling from the Calabasas campus, instead of taking Malibu Canyon or Kanan Dume Road south to Pacific Coast Highway, the best route may be traveling south/east on the 101 Highway to Topanga Canyon Road; south on Topanga to Pacific Coast Highway, then north on Pacific Coast Highway to Malibu. From Calabasas, this route adds 12 miles to the commute.

Road conditions may change, but it is likely these noted road closures will remain in place for tomorrow. Please plan for a potentially longer commute, since your typical route to the Malibu campus may not be available, and confirm road conditions before departing.

As always, all employees and students are encouraged to drive slowly and carefully, leave plenty of extra time for travel, and remain informed about conditions for Pepperdine’s Southern California campuses by utilizing the following resources:
