Pepperdine Monitoring This Week’s Rain Forecast
The National Weather Service is forecasting a rainstorm this week with periods of moderate to heavy rain in Southern California beginning on Tuesday evening, December 23, 2025, through Friday, December 26, 2025, with the heaviest periods predicted overnight on Tuesday and Wednesday. Los Angeles County officials have forecast a moderate level of mud/debris flows for affected areas, including the Palisades and Franklin burn scars. While the risk to Pepperdine’s campus is low, debris and mudflow, and localized street flooding are possible.
County officials have indicated evacuation warnings and also evacuation orders for some more at-risk properties within the local area will likely be issued Monday morning for the duration of the storm. Officials have noted that Pepperdine will be under an evacuation warning, not an evacuation order.
The University has prepared the Malibu campus for this rain event and anticipates the campus will fare well. At this time, there are no anticipated preemptive road closures for Malibu Canyon Road or Pacific Coast Highway, though conditions could change as the storm progresses. It is likely Topanga Canyon will preemptively close.
The University will maintain normal operations on Monday, December 22, 2025, and Tuesday, December 23, 2025, before the Christmas holiday begins. The University is actively monitoring the forecast and communicating closely with local and regional partners. Any changes to University operations will be communicated if conditions warrant.
Please exercise caution when traveling to and from campus, allow extra time for your commute, and stay informed about weather or road conditions. Greater Los Angeles road conditions are available at www.sigalert.com. Updates specific to roads near the Malibu campus will be made to the Road Conditions Hotline at 310.506.7623 (ROAD).
