Pepperdine Monitoring This Week’s Rain Forecast

Posted on

The National Weather Service is forecasting a rainstorm this week in Southern California beginning on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, through Saturday, January 3, 2026. Los Angeles County officials have forecast the potential for a low level of mud/debris flows for affected areas, including the Palisades and Franklin burn scars. The University has prepared the Malibu campus for this rain event and anticipates the campus will fare well. While the risk to Pepperdine’s campus is low, debris and mudflow, and localized street flooding in the area are possible.

County officials have indicated only evacuation warnings (not evacuation orders) across the local area and including Pepperdine will likely be announced later today. At this time, there are no anticipated preemptive road closures for Malibu Canyon Road or Pacific Coast Highway, though conditions could change as the storm progresses. Updates specific to roads near the Malibu campus will be made to the Road Conditions Hotline at 310.506.7623 (ROAD). Please monitor the road hotline for further changes to road closures.

Please exercise caution when traveling to and from campus, allow extra time for your commute, and stay informed about weather or road conditions. Greater Los Angeles road conditions are available at www.sigalert.com
