Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Southern California
The national weather service is predicting Tropical Storm Hilary will impact the Southern California area Sunday and Monday with potential for heavy rains and strong winds. The storm may or may not materialize to the extent predicted but could result in flooding, debris flow, wind damage, and/or resulting road closures. All employees and students are encouraged to remain informed about conditions for Pepperdine’s Southern California campuses by utilizing the resources below. Pepperdine University expects classes and campus operations to continue as normal.

If road closures result from the storm, please note decisions regarding class cancellations or campus closures are ordinarily made by the Emergency Operations Committee before 6 AM on any given day. The Pepperdine community will be notified and the information resources listed above will be updated if there are impacts to Pepperdine’s operations.
Pepperdine Monitoring Owen Fire in Topanga Canyon
The Owen Fire is burning in Topanga Canyon. Los Angeles County Fire is responding to address the fire and Pepperdine officials are monitoring. Though the fire is currently not threatening any Pepperdine campuses and winds are blowing away from University campuses, smoke may be visible from the Calabasas and Malibu campuses. Topanga Canyon is currently closed between Mulholland Highway and Pacific Coast Highway. Please check road conditions related to your travel as traffic around the area will be impacted by the closures and response activity.

Traffic Accident in Malibu Canyon Causing Delays
A traffic accident on southbound Malibu Canyon Road near the tunnel is causing delays. Consider giving yourself extra time to transit the canyon or use alternative routes to campus.

Delays on Malibu Canyon Road
California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported an accident near the tunnel earlier this morning. Southbound traffic is delayed while CPH clears the scene.
The Malibu Campus is open, classes and finals are proceeding as scheduled. Normal business operations are expected to continue throughout the day. Please allow for extra time when traveling to campus.
