Pepperdine Monitoring Two Southern California Wildfires
Pepperdine University officials are currently monitoring two wildfires near Pepperdine campuses.
- The Stokes Fire, in Calabasas near the intersection of Malibu Canyon and Mulholland is approximately 30-50 acres.
- The Topanga Fire, in Malibu near the intersection of Topanga Canyon and PCH is approximately 50 acres.
Los Angeles County Fire is fighting both fires with both ground crews and air support. Additionally an incident command post for the fires will be setup at Pepperdine’s Drescher Campus.
Road Closures at this time include:
- Topanga Canyon
- PCH at Sunset Boulevard
Malibu Classes Cancelled
Due to inclement weather, intermittent power outages, and intermittent road closures, Pepperdine officials have cancelled classes and closed the Malibu and Calabasas campuses at 3:30 PM on Friday, February 17, 2017 for the remainder of the day. All other campuses remain open and classes are to be held as scheduled.
Malibu and Calabasas campus staff are also released except for Critical Support Personnel. Staff departing campus should coordinate with their supervisors.
Currently the following routes to campus are impacted:
- Malibu Canyon has been closed intermittently as the county clears debris

Pepperdine University Preparation for Weekend Weather
The University Emergency Operations Committee (EOC) is monitoring weather, facility conditions, and road related activity as a result of the expected rain tonight and tomorrow. Pursuant to established protocol, the EOC will assess weather and road conditions as this storm moves through southern California. We encourage individuals traveling to Pepperdine campuses in southern California to check the University’s Road Conditions Hotline, (310) 506-ROAD (7623), regarding road closures.
