Pepperdine Officials Monitor Wildfire

Posted on Updated on

Pepperdine officials have been monitoring the wildfire near Calabasas and Topanga since it started Saturday afternoon. At this time, the fire has burned over 500 acres. While currently it is not threatening the Malibu campus, the Pepperdine community should remain alert regarding this fire as conditions can change. University officials are in close contact with the responsible agencies, including Public Safety personnel in direct communication with the incident command. The County Fire Department has devoted significant air and ground resources, and are working to contain the fire. They likely will use Alumni Park for air operations today. Further, it is possible that the Fire Department will move its command post to the Malibu campus later today.

The EOC encourages the community to remain vigilant about this fire through the day. You may check the University’s Emergency Information Page at http://emergency.pepperdine.edu for updates. Also, you may call the University’s Emergency Recorded Message line (888-286-5659) for messages and updates. From off campus you may obtain road condition information by calling Public Safety’s Road Condition hotline at 310-506-ROAD (extension 7623). Members of the Pepperdine community whose homes are affected by the fire or by road closures should follow the directions of their local governmental agencies.

We will provide updates as they become available.
