PCH to Close Wednesday at Noon
Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) from Chautauqua Blvd to Carbon Beach Terrace will be closed to all traffic except emergency vehicles and debris removal crews beginning Wednesday at Noon due to potential debris and mudflows during the rain storm. Officials will reopen PCH after the storm passes and the roadway is clear.

Remote Classes and Modified Operations Thursday on the Malibu Campus
Weather forecasts call for the potential for heavy rainfall Wednesday evening and into Thursday for the Los Angeles area. Local officials plan to close Malibu Canyon Road from 6 PM on Wednesday, March 12, through some time on Thursday afternoon, March 13, though actual times are likely to be determined based on weather conditions and possible impacts to the road.
Malibu Campus Classes, Operations, and Events
On Wednesday, March 12, all Malibu campus classes starting before 4 PM will be in person. All classes starting at 4 PM or later will be remote. Employees should plan to work their regularly scheduled day in person on the Malibu campus on Wednesday.
On Thursday, March 13, the Malibu campus will shift to remote classes and critical support staffing.
Normal operations, including in-person classes, are expected to resume on the Malibu Campus on Friday, March 14.
Those planning to attend a University event on the Malibu campus on Thursday should check with organizers regarding the event’s status. Athletic event updates will be posted on the University Athletics website. The status of Center for the Arts events is available via the CFA website.
Potential Evacuation Warnings
Los Angeles County officials may issue evacuation warnings for areas east of the Malibu campus affected by the recent fires due to the potential for debris flows from the rain, which could impact roads. Individuals who reside off-campus in areas under evacuation warnings and orders should follow law enforcement directives. As a reminder for those off-campus, evacuation warnings are not orders to leave, and are issued to remind individuals to be vigilant and to give residents time to prepare.
While hazardous conditions on the Malibu campus are unlikely, Pepperdine’s Emergency Operations Committee will communicate instructions to the University community via Everbridge if needed.
