Active Shooter at Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks

The University has received reports that several Pepperdine students were at Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks this evening when a gunman reportedly entered the location and began shooting. At this time, the University is working to identify and provide support to those students. Pepperdine officials are in contact with appropriate governmental agencies and will provide updates on the status of the situation as information is available.

Red Flag Warning – November 8-9, 2018

The National Weather Service has upgraded the current weather event to a Red Flag warning for Los Angeles County, including Malibu beginning Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 8:00 AM through Friday, November 9, 2018 at 8:00 PM. Coastal areas are expecting gusts around 35 MPH, with 50-70 MPH gusts predicted in the mountains. An extended period of dry conditions will also begin tomorrow, November 8, 2018 through Tuesday, November 13, 2018. This will bring the potential for additional red flag conditions next week.

Red Flag warnings issued by the National Weather Service identify time periods when conditions are ideal for wildfires. During Red Flag warnings it is especially important to:

  • Report any signs of smoke immediately to emergency responders. If on the Malibu campus call Public Safety at 310.506.4441. At all other locations report smoke by calling 911.
  • Use caution when disposing of cigarettes and ensure that they are completely extinguished.
  • Minimize any use of open flame in outdoor settings.

Pepperdine Public Safety is monitoring the situation and is prepared to respond to potential wildfires.
