Update #2: Pepperdine Monitoring Tick Fire and Other Fires in Southern California

Posted on

Pepperdine officials continue to monitor the Tick Fire in Santa Clarita and other fires burning in southern California. Smoke and ash from fires are likely to remain visible at the Calabasas and Malibu campuses. The fires are not currently impacting any of Pepperdine’s operations, University operations remain normal, and classes are being held as scheduled.

Pepperdine officials are also monitoring air quality and have taken the following actions:

  • Malibu Campus HVAC settings have been adjusted to limit outside air intake and primarily circulate internal air.
  • Please help keep campus doors closed to keep smoke out of our buildings.

If needed, masks are available on the Malibu campus at the following locations: Howard A. White Center, Payson Library, Waves Cafe, Drescher Graduate Campus Library, and the Pepperdine Law library. Masks will also be available at the main reception desk at the Calabasas and Encino campuses. If you pick up a mask or already have one, please save it for potential use throughout the weekend.

Southern California Edison officials have indicated that Pepperdine’s campuses are not on their high priority list of locations for a potential Public Safety Power Shutoff in which they would turn off the power in an attempt to prevent the start of a wildfire.

Please be advised of the following:

  • Community members whose homes are affected by the fire or road closures should follow the directions of their local governmental agencies.
