Our hearts are broken with the news of this profound loss. We offer our deepest condolences to the Housley family and ask that our community join us in keeping Alaina’s family, friends, and loved ones in their prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
We are here to guide and support our students, faculty, staff, and alumni in as many ways as we can, and this includes providing access to grief counselors and licensed clinicians to help them cope with the pain and sorrow this tragedy brings. In this time of deep concern and sadness, we are focused on making sure the entire Pepperdine family comes together in a compassionate way that leads to individual and community healing.
As we try to process yet another act of senseless violence, please know that the following resources are available here on campus:

In times like this, we need each other and our faith to carry us through. Please join me in lifting up Alaina’s family, friends, loved ones, as well as all those affected by this tragedy in prayer.
Sincerely,
Connie Horton

One of those students remains unaccounted for, and we know of two students who were treated and released from a local hospital.
A prayer service for each and every community member will be held at noon today in Smothers Theatre on the Malibu campus. This is a time for our campus community to come together and support one another. For our Pepperdine family around the world, please take a moment and uplift all those impacted by this tragedy in prayer.

Borderline Bar and Grill Shooting – Update #3
The University is heartbroken as we continue to monitor developments following last night’s tragic events at Borderline Bar and Grill. The Emergency Operations Committee (EOC) convened shortly after the incident and gathered on campus to coordinate the University’s response.
We continue to pray for the victims and their families, and all of us at Pepperdine are committed to assisting our community through this tragedy in every way possible. At this time, Stauffer Chapel will be open and staffed throughout day for those in need of community and pastoral care.
Pepperdine University plans to continue with the routine of our normal class schedule to provide structure and community for our students. We acknowledge that there is nothing routine about today and encourage students to use their discretion about attending class and prioritizing their health and well-being.
The University is grateful for the first responders who risked their lives for the safety of our community and will continue to work with local law enforcement throughout the day. For the latest updates, please visit the University’s Emergency Information Page.
