Red Flag Warning Issued for October 29-31, 2019
The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag warning for Los Angeles and Ventura Counties beginning at 11 PM tonight through Thursday at 6 PM. Peak fire danger conditions are expected on Wednesday with gusts of 50–70 MPH and humidity as low as 1–5%. Any fire ignitions could have a rapid rate of spread and potential for extreme fire behavior. Winds will continue in the same direction through Saturday but are expected to be significantly weaker.
Red Flag warnings issued by the National Weather Service identify time periods when conditions are ideal for wildfires. During Red Flag warnings it is especially important to:
- Report any signs of smoke immediately to emergency responders. If on the Malibu campus, call Public Safety at 310.506.4441. At all other locations report smoke by calling 911.
- Use caution when disposing of cigarettes and ensure that they are completely extinguished.
- Minimize any use of open flame in outdoor settings.
- Consider taking down umbrellas and moving patio furniture inside.
Update #3 – Pepperdine Monitoring SoCal Wildfire Activity and Road Closures
Pepperdine officials continue to monitor fire activity in the area and have noted the following updates to road conditions:
- Pacific Coast Highway is now open in both directions.
- The 405 northbound in the Sepulveda Pass is open, although off ramps remain closed. The 405 southbound remains closed from the 101 freeway to Sunset Boulevard.
- The 101 is open in Calabasas following the Oak Fire.

Update #2 – Pepperdine Monitoring SoCal Wildfire Activity and Road Closures
Pepperdine officials continue to monitor fire activity in the area and have noted the following updates to road conditions:
- Pacific Coast Highway southbound is now open.
- The 405 northbound in the Sepulveda Pass is open, although off ramps remain closed.
- The 101 is open in Calabasas following the Oak Fire.

Pepperdine Monitoring Oak Fire in Calabasas – Knockdown Reported
Pepperdine officials are monitoring a fire in Calabasas, called the Oak Fire, which had started at the corner of Las Virgenes Road and the 101 freeway. The fire department is reporting knockdown on the fire, and will remain on location to address hotspots and flare-ups. Smoke may remain visible from the Calabasas campus.
